Bicharaf participated in the 3rd Annual International Conference on Information and Communications Technologies and Development (ICTD2009) at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar from April 17-19.In a demo session, Dr. Tony Feghali and Rami Abi Sleiman shared a case study, "The Virtual Community as a Channel for Promoting Academic Integrity: Bicharaf.org".
Bicharaf, which translates to 'with honor' in Arabic, is a business ethics and academic integrity initiative at the Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Established in 2004 by Dr. Tony Feghali, Bicharaf aims to raise ethical awareness among business professionals, as well as students, faculty, and administrators. Bicharaf functions through partnerships with businesses, universities and schools.
The ICTD2009 conference highlighted the importance of technology and usability in developing societies. According to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar's official website, "ICTD is the premiere conference for innovating technology accessible and relevant to developing economies. It is a multidisciplinary forum for academic researchers and practitioners designing, deploying, and evaluating computing technology solutions."
